In the early 80’s, aerobics swept England by storm. Small and large studios were being opened everywhere on an almost daily basis. At that time I worked as the Gym Manager and Fitness Instructor in one of the busiest health clubs in West London. The notice-boards with aerobic class schedules were packed with fancy titles: "Gina's Intense Aerobics", "Dan's Tornado Class"... Most of those classes had low productivity levels and were mainly structured around the fun and entertainment factor. Some, however, lived up to their inspiring titles. But, there was something that they all had in common: a very poor, often negligible, participation of the upper body, engaged mainly in a form of occasional hand-clapping or arm-swinging and swaying. And yet almost every instructor was associating his or her class with the "in" term: "total fitness".

It was that term, “total fitness”, which was being attached to exercise routines that obviously ignored the upper body's true fitness potential, that prompted me to design a fitness program which could claim total fitness with some legitimacy. The clear imbalance in the energy levels of the upper and the lower body of most people was not, in my mind, leading to true vitality and certainly not to a condition that could be called "total fitness". Especially for thousands of women, whose main concern was to reduce the size of their lower body, doing such imbalanced exercises would often have an unwanted, counterproductive effect.

The Fitness 4x4 concept was born on the principle that seems logical and very simple: - if both the upper and the lower body are trained to the same energy output level, then long-term, overall vitality and complete fitness are possible.

Fitness 4x4 comprises two terms: "Fitness" and "4x4". The term "fitness" defines the ability of the body to sustain a prolonged intense physical activity during which the heart rate (HR) is kept at an elevated level of 70% to 90% of its maximum (maximum HR = 220 - Age). The term "4x4" implies that the above-described physical condition is achieved by involving fully not just two (as is commonly the case), but all four limbs of the body, either simultaneously or separately but at the same level of engagement of the cardiovascular system.

The term "4x4" originates in the motorcar industry and stands for all four wheels being powered by the motor. According to the theory of Fitness 4x4, the only objective criterion by which one's vitality level can be determined is the Energy Output (EO) of which the body is capable in a given time period. In order to evaluate the EO capacity of either the upper or the lower body, the vertical training method is used. Any movement of the body, with or without additional weight, performed vertically in the direction opposite to that of gravitational force, requires a certain amount of energy, which is calculated as follows:

EO = (weight) x (range of movement) x (number of reps).

Being able to calculate one's own EO enables one to monitor his/her progress (or otherwise) in the energy levels of the upper and lower body, and to understand the importance of balance in fitness levels of the two parts of the body. Most people have an imbalance between the lower and the upper body's EO capacities as high as 9:1 but are completely oblivious to it.

On the front page of this flyer is a photo taken around my 50-th birthday. The photo below is from my mid-thirties at a time when Fitness 4x4 was in its infancy. But besides the obvious progress in terms of cosmetic values appearance of the body, perhaps more importantly, my actual physical performance level has increased considerably since that time. During my fiftieth year I broke my life's best records seven times and had numerous contests sponsored by Green Foods in a number of LA Fitness Gyms and Gold's Gyms as well as different conventions, sometimes competing against a group of three or more contenders for a $1000 prize.
At this stage in life I know that without Fitness 4X4 my physical condition and health would be well inferior to what they have turned out to be. The intellectual and philosophical aspects became clear only in retrospect. The initial drive and conviction to pursue the path of Fitness 4X4 was largely intuitive. Today, with my Fitness 4x4 mentality, when I observe people in the gym doing their exercise routines, it is crystal clear to me why so many of them will get so little from so much time invested.

My nutritional habits are rather monotonous since I like eating the same food all the time - day after day, month after month. With such a diet and without any kind of food supplement I could be short of some vitamins and minerals needed for maintaining my high intensity training. But the idea of having to open a dozen different bottles every morning does not appeal to me. Like my diet – it has to be simple. A little over four years ago I came across a product called "Green Magma" and took it for a couple of months without noticing any significant change in my already sound health. However I did notice a considerable improvement in the quality of my sleep and digestion and that these improvements were reflecting positively on my training energy output. Since energy output is one of the basic principles of Fitness 4x4 it made me realize how important Green Magma was in health and fitness matters. Ever since, the drink of Green Magma has been the very first thing that enters my stomach – every single day. It is more than a coincidence that in the last couple of years I reached my highest ever fitness levels, in a stage of life when such a condition is very uncommon. Obviously my simple diet is enriched by a glass of this potent supplement, which seems to provide me with all the minerals and vitamins I need.

I am not competent to speculate on a scientific level about how Green Magma delivers all those vitamins and minerals, but I certainly know that it is great to be at this level of fitness on such a simple diet and one green drink.
