The Western States 100 Mile Endurance
Run
 |
Karine’s
over half way
there and going strong. |
During the last week in June, the internationally recognized
annual Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run (WS 100) took
place starting at Squaw Valley and finishing at Placer High
School in Auburn, California. The difference in elevation
between these two points is 4,000 feet but the rugged up and
down terrain requires that the runners climb uphill for a
total of 18,000 feet and descend for 22,000 feet. Both female
and male runners from across the U.S., Canada, Denmark, England,
France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, New Zealand,
Norway, Tanzania, the United Kingdom, and South Africa, participated
in this year’s event. The race began at 5 AM Saturday
and ended with most of the runners crossing the finish line
after midnight. The cutoff time for completing the race was
11 AM Sunday morning (30 hours). While, in past events, daytime
temperatures typically exceeded 100 degrees F, this year temperatures
were cooler than normal, which probably helped account for
the high number of runners (318 out of 400) finishing this
grueling contest of will power and endurance. For more information
on this event, visit WS100.com.
Karine finishes third.
In this year’s WS100 event, Green Foods Corporation
was proud to sponsor Karine Herry, M.D. of Les Estables
in southern France. Karine was the French National 100 km
champion in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 and, in May 2005,
only one month before the WS 100, she won the International
Women’s 100 km held in France. Karine, running the
WS100 for the first time, captured third place, finishing
in under 20 hours (19h 58’46’’). Karine,
together with her husband/trainer, Bruno, and two young
children live in rural southern France where Karine trains,
helps run their bed and breakfast inn, and has a full-time
medical practice! Talk about multi-tasking!
Incredible Feats
The amazing Scott Jurek from Seattle, Washington,
had another tremendous finish as he won the men’s
WS100 title for the seventh consecutive time while the women’s
champion, Annette Bednosky from Jefferson, North Carolina,
like Karine, was running the WS100 for the first time. However,
no matter what place a runner came in, we offer our congratulations
and admiration to all the runners who finished this incredible
event as it is more about competing with oneself rather
than against others. In fact, during the awards ceremony
at Placer High School in Auburn on Sunday afternoon, it
was evident that the several hundred courageous runners
and the thirteen hundred dedicated support staff shared
a common feeling of cooperation, camaraderie, and mutual
respect. The Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run is truly
a remarkable and rewarding event for all involved.
Karine’s Elixir:
Green Magma
As an experienced long-distance runner and practicing medical
doctor, Karine Herry, at age 37, knows well how to prepare
herself for an ultra-marathon. Several years ago, Karine
was introduced to Green Magma and she quickly noticed the
difference it made in her energy level, endurance, and recovery
rate. Karine now makes Green Magma an integral part of her
daily diet and her only supplement during training and competition.
Karine has no doubt that taking Green Magma has played a
key role in helping her achieve a high level of performance,
competitive success, and overall health. Thanks to Karine
and word-of-mouth by other Green Magma users, many people
including numerous athletes are aware of the health and
performance benefits that Green Magma, Magma Plus, and other
GreenFoods’ products offer.
Again, congratulations, Karine!
We look forward to your continued success!
